Aberdeen

Aberdeen is the third-largest city in Scotland; it has an official population estimate of 202,370. Aberdeen, commonly known as the Granite City, lies 120 miles northeast of Edinburgh, on the banks of the rivers Dee and Don smack in the middle of the northeast coast.

Aberdeen divides into five main areas. The city centre, features the opulent Marischal College, the colonnaded Art Gallery, and homes that predate Aberdeen's nineteenth-century town planning and have been preserved as museums. Union Street continues west to the comparatively cosmopolitan West End, where much of the nightlife can be found. To the south, the harbour still heaves with boats serving the fishing and oil industries, while north of the centre lies Old Aberdeen, a village neighbourhood presided over by King's College and St Machar's Cathedral. The long sandy beach with its esplanade development marks Aberdeen's eastern border.

Discover magnificent castles and gardens, wildlife galore, museums, distilleries, art galleries and championship golf courses... with bustling shopping centres, a wide variety of entertainment and leisure facilities, and a vibrant arts scene. Aberdeen is a major retail, leisure and cultural centre.

Excellent travel links include direct trains to Edinburgh and London, and a ferry service to Orkney and Shetland. Aberdeen airport has domestic and international flights.

Aberdeen Property Market

Aberdeen has one of Scotland's most striking skylines. It is nicknamed the Granite City for good reason: buildings such as Marishal College, His Majesty's Theatre and St Machar's Cathedral give the city its distinctive look. The heraldic ceiling in the cathedral dates from the 14th century, and the twin spires are a landmark of Old Aberdeen.

The University of Aberdeen is the UK's fifth oldest university and has a significant social and economic influence on the city. For the high concentration of overseas residents there is the International School of Aberdeen and the Total French School which means the rental market is strong in Aberdeen
