Some short introducion about the most popular Balaton Lakeside cities:Keszthely: Town of almost 23,000 inhabitants at the north-western corner of Balaton. One of the largest cities of Balaton shore, traditional cultural and educational centre, university town. Currently it is one of the most popular places of Balaton visited by lots of tourists, probably because of its nice old city, historic monuments, museums, cultural programmes and the closeness of HévÃz. HévÃz: The thermal lake with a surface of 44,400 m2 is the second largest lake with peat bottom in the world. The medicinal water gushes out from a 38 m deep spring crater, its average temperature in summer is 33-35 °C, but in winter it is not less than 23 °C, so one can bathe outside all year round. The water of the lake has a special curative effect on the different kinds of rheumatic, locomotor, muscle, and nervous system´s disorders and gynaecological problems. The cure in HévÃz is not only for rehabilitation but it also serves for prevention, relaxation and recreation. The therapeutic effect of the water that has sallied forth since several ten thousands of years, was known as early as the Roman times, however, the first public bath was built in commission of the owner Count György Festetics in 1795. By the landlord, edifices were constructed and a constant medical supervision provided.Cserszegtomaj: The settlement has the largest territory in Hungary, it is almost built together with the neighbouring Keszthely and HévÃz, and is only a few km from Rezi. As a result, it is a significant spot of tourism. It has 2,271 inhabitants, most of whom are involved in tourism by providing accommodation or catering services to visitors. The symbol of Cserszegtomaj is the Margaret look-out tower, where an elevator is available for visitors. The 52 m deep and 3 km long well-cave can be visited with guidance. The impressive building of the Castle Theatre houses a museum today. Cserszegi Fűszeres, the wine speciality of the region, which won a world competition in England, was named after the village. The wine route association aims to make the wine well-known. Nemesvita: It is 3 kms from Balatonederics by road 84, on the east slope of Keszthelyi mountain. The locals are very proud of the approach road, which is lined with poplars. The number of the population was 1166 in 1890, but decreased to 420 due to historical reasons. Nemesvita is in a wooded valley, its houses were built on the slopes of the hill. The ravines formed by the heavy rainfalls caused a lot of trouble to the village, so they had to build supporting walls. The winding sreets with houses one above the other give a unique and quite picturesque view of the village. Besides the mansions that were owned by the gentry and the folk houses with crest ornaments so typical of the village, the Catholic church is also worse visiting. It is of medieval origin but it was rebuilt in 1778 in late Baroque style. And many many many other fairy places! |
