CoventryCoventry is a city and metropolitan borough in the county of West Midlands in England with a population of 306,000, Coventry is the 9th largest city in England and the 11th largest in the United Kingdom. It is also the second largest city after Birmingham by population.
The city that has been rebuilt is one of modern precincts and contemporary cityscapes amongst the historical remains. It is ever growing with new bars and restaurants opening in the historical quarter and entertainment and leisure complexes where factories used to stand.
There are several annual festivals such as the internationally acclaimed Jazz and Church Music Festival and at any other time of year there is lively nightlife, theatres, cinemas and sporting events to keep visitors entertained.
Coventry boasts several museums and galleries including the world-class Motor museum, the Toy museum, Herbert Art gallery and museum and the Lunt Roman Fort at Baginton. Coventry Cathedral is notable for being one of the newest cathedrals in the world, having been built following the World War II bombing of the ancient cathedral by the Luftwaffe.
Coventry is also famous for the legendary 11th century exploits of Lady Godiva.
Climate information
Coventry has a mean annual precipitation of 55 mm / 2.1 inches, with both August and December having a slightly higher than average rainfall of around 66 mm / 2.6 inches. Rainy weather tends to be more frequent during Coventry's winter months, with periods of heavy fog and drizzle at times. Summer rainfalls can be shorter and are often extremely heavy downpours, with the clouds soon clearing to reveal more favourable weather.
Frosts are most likely in Coventry overnight in January and February, when the temperature stays close to freezing. The climate can feel even colder at this time of the year due to periods of strong, gusty breezes, which add a definite wind-chill factor. However, by the time that April has arrived, the weather is showing much more promise of summer sunshine, reaching 15°C / 59°F on occasion during April and even higher in May, during the sunniest spells. July and August, the traditional English summer holiday months, feature peaks of 25°C / 77°F and on still days, this can feel a little humid and muggy.
