The popularity of The Beatles and the other groups from the Merseybeat era contributes to Liverpool's status as a tourist destination; tourism forms a significant part of the city's modern economy. In 2007 the city celebrated its 800th anniversary, and in 2008 it held the European Capital of Culture title together with Stavanger, Norway.
Liverpool residents, have access to an extensive public transport system. The railway runs predominantly underground and the major city station, Lime Street, is one of the most well known in the UK. There is also a bus network, but the train is more commonly used for travel within the city. Liverpool John Lennon Airport (named after the late Beatle) is located approximately 7.5 miles south east of the city centre. Climate information

Liverpool Property Market
The price of an apartment in the centre of town soared by a whopping 75 per cent between 2000 and 2006 but last year things calmed down (prices dipped by two per cent). The investment market for one and two bed units remains strong and investors are still a force to be reckoned with.
As Liverpool City Centre reinvents itself, and the schemes currently under construction reach completion, living in this part of town is bound to become even more attractive and that can only be positive for the housing market.
About 70 per cent of houses in Liverpool are terraced or semi-detached properties, with an abundance of Victorian, Georgian and Edwardian style terraces on and surrounding Upper Parliament Street.
