Stockport

Stockport is a large town in Greater Manchester, England. It lies on elevated ground on the River Mersey at the influx of the rivers Goyt and Tame, 6.1miles (9.8km) southeast of the city of Manchester. Stockport is the largest settlement of the Metropolitan Borough of Stockport, and has a population of 136,082, the wider borough having 281,000. Stockport lies between the cosmopolitan city of Manchester and the beautiful countryside of the Derbyshire Peaks and the Cheshire Plains. The area boasts excellent shopping facilities, a diverse and interesting range of visitor attractions, stunning countryside and a number of thriving local centres.

As one of the fastest growing towns in the North West, Stockport is also one of the greenest with 45 per cent of the region classified as greenbelt and home to 30 parks, over a million trees and the gateway to the Peak District National Park. Whether it is the tranquillity of the countryside or the bustle of the big city, Stockport is ideally located to provide the best of both worlds, at the same time.

Getting around Stockport

Stockport is easily accessible by road. The A6 is the main arterial route that cuts through the centre of town from Macclesfield in the south and Manchester in the north. Whilst the M60 - which links with the M56 and M6 - motorway runs past the northern centre of the town at Junction 1 that enable you to drive into the town centre within minutes. Stockport train station is centrally located just behind the main through road, Wellington Road South (A6). Services to Stockport run from a number of regional stations all within a 20 minutes journey-time, including Wilmslow, Macclesfield, Hazel Grove, Cheadle Hulme, Heaton Chapel, Reddish and Manchester Piccadilly. Whilst the bus station, opposite the Mersey Way shopping centre, is the main destination for all bus services heading into the town.

Stockport Property Market

Main residential areas
Stockport 's hinterland covers the much sought-after suburbs of Wilmslow, Didsbury, Macclesfield and Bramhall. Didsbury, in particular, is the most popular area for young professionals on account of its thriving cosmopolitan atmosphere that has gotten better with age and has a strong rentals market – charging city centre rates.

Closer to the town centre are the areas of Heaton Norris, Heaton Chap Heaton Moor – all within a couple of miles of Stockport with a good mix of apartments, traditional and family housing - and all conveniently located along the main route linking Stockport to Manchester.
